KORKUT is Turkey’s mobile, armored, low-altitude air defense system designed to protect ground forces against helicopters, UAVs, cruise missiles and other low-flying aerial threats. Built on a tracked platform, the system can operate in challenging terrain and move at the same pace as mechanized units, providing continuous air defense during advancing or defensive operations. Its modern sensor suite manages detection, tracking, threat classification and engagement processes autonomously, making KORKUT a highly effective asset on the tactical battlefield.
Technically, KORKUT is equipped with a 35 mm twin-barrel cannon capable of firing high-rate bursts and using advanced programmable ammunition (ATOM). This airburst munition detonates near the target, dramatically increasing effectiveness against modern aerial threats. The system consists of three main components: the Command-and-Control Vehicle for target detection and coordination, the Weapon System Vehicle for engagement, and a robust communication network that links both platforms. With its autonomous tracking radar, optical sensors, stabilized firing system and real-time ballistic computation, KORKUT delivers high accuracy even while moving. Designed for modern warfare requirements, it provides 360-degree low-altitude protection and acts as a critical layer in Turkey’s integrated air defense architecture.
