BREAKING NEWS
Member states of the Turkish States Organization (TDT) decided to strengthen multilateral cooperation in the defense industry sector during the 13th Summit held in Ankara. The Ankara Declaration, released following the summit, devoted considerable attention to defense sector collaboration alongside political and economic cooperation. Article 21 of the declaration welcomed the Cooperation Roadmap adopted at the 2nd Meeting of TDT Defense Industry Institution Heads, held in Baku on October 1, 2026. This step underscores commitment to developing effective multilateral defense industry cooperation among member states.
The most notable decision in Article 22 of the declaration concerns the establishment of a TDT Defense Industry College under Turkish leadership. Relevant institutions and the TDT Secretariat have been encouraged to develop this program. The planned college aims to enhance knowledge and experience sharing among member states, contribute to training qualified personnel, provide theoretical and practical expertise, and enable close monitoring of technological developments in the defense sector. Such educational institutions play a critical role in human resource development and standardization within the defense industry.
The Turkish States Organization, which brings together nine countries in Central Asia and the Caucasus, has demonstrated increasing coordination in defense and security matters in recent years. The geographic positions of member states, shared security challenges, and technological development objectives make this cooperation a strategic necessity. Strengthening institutional capacity in the defense industry is a fundamental element for regional stability and developing independent defense capabilities. According to the declaration, direct commercial relations between enterprises, sharing of production technologies, and development of joint projects are being encouraged.
Beyond defense industry cooperation, the declaration also reflected significant developments in space technology. The outcomes of the 5th Meeting of TDT Space Agency Heads held in Tashkent on March 30, 2026, were welcomed. The successful completion of the production phase of the 12U "TDT-SAT" CubeSat developed under the TDT flag demonstrates the Turkish world's developing technological capabilities. The "First Framework Agreement on Developing Cooperation Capacity in Space Industry within TDT," signed in Antalya on October 6, 2026, establishes the legal foundation for institutional cooperation in space technologies.
These cooperation agreements in defense industry and space technology sectors will enable TDT member states to play more effective roles in the regional and global security environment. Joint training programs, technology transfer, and project development mechanisms will assist member states in modernizing their defense capabilities and increasing localization rates. According to the declaration, relevant authorities of member states are called upon to accelerate legal, regulatory, and technical processes related to the launch of the 12U TDT-SAT CubeSat. These steps represent important milestones in the Turkish world's path toward achieving independent and robust capabilities in defense and space technologies.
