BREAKING NEWS
The Vietnam People’s Air Force (VPAF) faced a serious incident during a routine training mission in Quảng Nam province. A Su-22 fighter-bomber, piloted by Captain Đỗ Tiến Đức, lost control and crashed in the town of Điện Bàn. The aircraft’s front and rear sections were scattered nearly 200 meters apart after impact.
Thanks to Captain Đức’s decisive maneuver, the jet was steered away from densely populated areas, preventing a potential tragedy. The pilot successfully ejected and survived the crash. While no fatalities occurred, one local resident suffered minor injuries, and nearby homes sustained property damage.
Following the crash, VPAF and Điện Bàn local authorities acted swiftly to assist the affected community. Each household received four million đồng (approximately $163 USD) in compensation to repair damaged property. Officials also supported the individual injured by falling debris, ensuring immediate medical attention.
This incident marks Vietnam’s second major Su-22 crash. The previous one occurred in 2018 in Nghe An province, when severe weather caused the aircraft to crash into a forested area south of Hanoi, killing both crew members.
In light of this latest accident, the VPAF is expected to review its training and safety protocols. Local residents have also voiced calls for stricter safety standards to prevent future tragedies.
