BREAKING NEWS
The US Department of State has approved a potential $280 million Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Jordan for Ku-band Multi-Role Radio Frequency Systems (KuMRFS), including associated equipment and support services. The required congressional notification was submitted on 26 February 2026, formally advancing the process. RTX Missile Defense Technologies has been designated as the prime contractor for the agreement, with the system based on the KuRFS radar family developed by Raytheon.
The proposed package goes beyond radar units and includes a command and control (C2) system, generators, GPS receivers, spare and repair parts, special tools, test equipment, technical documentation, and training devices. It also covers US Government and contractor-provided technical, engineering, and logistics support services. Field service representatives, system integration support, concurrent spare parts, contractor logistics support, and program management reviews are all part of the comprehensive package. This broad scope ensures operational readiness and long-term sustainability of the systems once deployed.
The KuMRFS, also referred to as the Ku-band Radio Frequency System (KuRFS), is designed to provide 360-degree coverage against a range of threats, including unmanned aerial systems (UAS), rockets, artillery, and mortars. The radar can be mounted on a fixed site or integrated onto a vehicle within approximately 30 minutes, offering high mobility and rapid deployment capability. Its precision tracking performance makes it particularly effective against low-altitude, small cross-section targets commonly associated with asymmetric warfare.
Originally developed for the US Army to counter rocket, artillery, and mortar attacks in Iraq and Afghanistan, the KuRFS radar is now widely used in counter-UAS roles. The system can integrate with multiple defensive solutions, including land-based Phalanx weapon systems, .50 caliber machine guns, 30 mm cannons, high-energy laser systems, and the Coyote interceptor. This interoperability enables a layered air defense architecture, significantly enhancing Jordan’s ability to address both existing and emerging threats.
According to the US Department of State, the proposed sale supports US foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the security of a major non-NATO ally that plays a vital role in promoting political stability and economic progress in the Middle East. The deal is also expected to bolster deterrence and support operations under US Central Command (CENTCOM), reinforcing regional defense cooperation.
