Bayraktar TB3 Showcases AI-Powered Performance in Harsh Baltic Conditions
During NATO’s large-scale military drill Steadfast Dart 2026, the Turkish-made unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) Bayraktar TB3 demonstrated exceptional operational capability in the Baltic Sea. Deployed aboard the amphibious assault ship TCG ANADOLU, the national UCAV successfully carried out a flight demonstration under severe winter conditions, including temperatures dropping to -5°C, heavy snowfall, and strong winds.
Despite icy deck conditions and turbulent air currents over the sea, Bayraktar TB3 autonomously took off from TCG ANADOLU’s short runway using its advanced AI-supported flight control systems. The platform maintained stable flight characteristics throughout the mission, effectively countering strong crosswinds and turbulence caused by harsh weather. After completing its sortie, the UCAV executed a fully autonomous landing on the vessel, whose deck had been cleared of ice due to freezing conditions.
Notably, Bayraktar TB3 became the only aircraft capable of flying during the exercise under such extreme weather. While participating fighter jets and helicopters were unable to operate due to adverse conditions, the Turkish UCAV successfully performed its demonstration, earning high praise from allied representatives observing the drill.
In recent operations conducted in the same region, Bayraktar TB3 also demonstrated its strike capability by accurately engaging surface targets with dual MAM-L missile salvo launches. These successful missions reaffirm the platform’s ability to conduct reconnaissance, surveillance, and precision strike operations in all-weather conditions, significantly enhancing naval air power.
Developed entirely with national resources by Baykar, the Bayraktar TB3 reflects Türkiye’s growing strength in unmanned naval aviation. Baykar continued to lead the global UAV export market in 2025, reaching $2.2 billion in exports. The company has signed export agreements with 36 countries for Bayraktar TB2 and 16 countries for Bayraktar AKINCI, solidifying its position as the world’s largest UAV manufacturer.
Bayraktar TB3’s performance in the Baltic Sea stands as a clear indicator of Türkiye’s advanced defense capabilities and its expanding role within NATO’s operational framework.
