Türkiye’s defense industry closed 2023 as a historic year filled with innovations, milestones, and firsts. With projects developed through domestic and national capabilities, Türkiye not only reinforced its independence in defense but also demonstrated its growing technological superiority on the global stage.
One of the early highlights of the year was the delivery of the MERTER Backpack Tactical Field Electronic Attack System in the field of electronic warfare. For the land forces, the unveiling of the New Altay Tank and the Next-Generation Fırtına Howitzer represented major firepower advancements. Additionally, the KAPGAN unmanned ground vehicle and the ARMA II 8x8 armored vehicle showcased Türkiye’s rising strength in next-generation ground platforms. Developments such as the use of indigenous armor steel, 8x8 wheeled recovery and carrier vehicles, and the YÖRÜK 4x4 tactical armored vehicles further emphasized the maturity of Türkiye’s land systems production capabilities.
In the aviation field, groundbreaking progress was also achieved. The ATAK-2 heavy-class attack helicopter and the ANKA-3 unmanned combat aircraft successfully conducted their maiden flights, signaling the start of a new era in Türkiye’s air power. These projects underlined Türkiye’s growing ability to develop advanced aerospace technologies.
At sea, the commissioning of the TCG ANADOLU, Türkiye’s first multipurpose amphibious assault ship, and the ongoing production of İSTİF-class frigates significantly strengthened the country’s naval presence, particularly in line with its Blue Homeland strategy. Moreover, the initiation of serial production of national air defense missiles and record-breaking export achievements highlighted Türkiye’s expanding influence in global defense markets.
Overall, 2023 stood out as a pivotal year for Türkiye’s defense industry. From critical strategic platforms to export successes, the achievements of this year demonstrated both the vision and the capabilities of Türkiye’s defense sector on a worldwide scale.
