The KAAN National Combat Aircraft Project represents Türkiye’s strategic vision to secure long-term air superiority through indigenous and national capabilities. Designed in accordance with fifth-generation fighter aircraft standards, KAAN features low radar observability, an internal weapons bay, high maneuverability, and network-enabled warfare capabilities. Planned to replace F-16 aircraft in the Turkish Air Force inventory from the 2030s onward, KAAN is engineered for operational service extending into the 2070s.
KAAN is designed to operate in full integration with Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) platforms and unmanned aerial systems, enabling network-centric and multi-domain operations. Its twin-engine configuration supports high-speed and high-altitude performance, while its advanced avionics architecture and sensor fusion significantly enhance pilot situational awareness. Beyond its operational role, the project marks a critical milestone for the defense industry ecosystem by positioning Türkiye among the limited number of nations capable of developing fifth-generation combat aircraft.
