Developed by Baykar, one of Türkiye’s leading defense industry companies, Bayraktar Akıncı represents the most advanced stage of the country’s unmanned aerial systems capability. Classified as a Heavy Attack Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UCAV), AKINCI stands out with an over 5,500 kg maximum takeoff weight and more than 1,350 kg payload capacity, far exceeding conventional UCAV standards.
Equipped with dual turboprop engines, advanced electronic support and countermeasure systems, AESA radar integration, and dual satellite communication architecture, AKINCI is capable of conducting deep strike, intelligence-surveillance-reconnaissance (ISR), electronic warfare, and air-to-air missions on a single platform. Its full compatibility with indigenous precision-guided munitions significantly enhances Türkiye’s deterrence posture and strengthens its network-centric warfare capability.
The development journey of AKINCI began with its first public visuals in 2018. Following the engine cooperation with Ukraine-based Ivchenko-Progress, the platform conducted its maiden flight in 2019. After an intensive testing and integration phase, Bayraktar AKINCI officially entered the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces on 29 August 2021, achieving full operational maturity through successful live-fire tests with multiple munition types.
