The Altay Main Battle Tank (MBT) stands as one of the most strategic land platforms of Türkiye’s defense industry, developed in line with the requirements of modern battlefield conditions. As a 3+ generation main battle tank, the Altay project was carried out under the prime contractor leadership of Otokar Otomotiv ve Savunma Sanayi A.Ş., with extensive contributions from national defense industry stakeholders throughout its design, testing, and integration phases.

Altay is equipped with a 120 mm L/55 smoothbore main gun compliant with STANAG 4385 standards, advanced fire control systems, modular composite armor, and enhanced situational awareness capabilities. The main gun system was developed through cooperation between Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi Kurumu and Hyundai Rotem, ensuring high accuracy and lethality at extended ranges.

The tank’s command, control, battlefield management, and fire control systems are fully designed and produced domestically by ASELSAN, providing superior target engagement performance and digital battlefield integration. Advanced armor solutions and active/passive protection systems developed with the contribution of ROKETSAN significantly enhance crew survivability against modern threats.

With its high firepower, advanced protection technologies, and ability to operate effectively in harsh terrain and extreme climate conditions, the Altay Main Battle Tank is designed to increase the deterrence and operational effectiveness of the Turkish Armed Forces. As the project moves into serial production, Altay is expected to strengthen Türkiye’s strategic position in land systems both domestically and in international defense markets.
