BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s Coastal Surveillance Radar System (SGRS) is an integrated coastal-security backbone that fuses radar + electro-optical sensors + AIS (Automatic Identification System) into one common maritime picture. Under the Turkish Coast Guard Command, it supports missions such as anti-smuggling, irregular migration control, illegal fishing prevention, marine pollution response, and search-and-rescue with real-time situational awareness. Software components are developed domestically by HAVELSAN, while radar and electro-optical suites are produced by ASELSAN, delivering a modular, end-to-end coastal monitoring shield across Türkiye’s shores.
How Does It Work?
SGRS collects X-Band FMCW radar data from fixed coastal stations and mobile radar units, combines it with thermal/day cameras and AIS tracks, and presents it in command centers as a single tactical sea picture. Operators benefit from automatic target detection & tracking, early warning for suspicious contacts, and faster interdiction. Mobile radars with up to 48 NM range and round-the-clock operation add rapid deployment and flexibility in dynamic scenarios.
Key Products & Technologies
ASELSAN SERDAR family (SERDAR 100-Co, SERDAR-7M): Solid-state, low-probability-of-intercept (LPI), X-Band FMCW coastal radars for surface targets and low-flying aerial threats, featuring automatic detection/tracking and remote operation on fixed land platforms.
Electro-optical systems (thermal/day cameras, laser designators): Deliver day-night, all-weather identification, mountable on coastal stations, ships, and patrol craft.
Command-and-control by HAVELSAN: Provides 24/7 persistent monitoring, inter-agency integration, and decision support on a unified interface.
Why It Matters?
National security & law enforcement: Following the 2017 contract phase and initial roll-out focused on the Aegean, Marmara, and Western Black Sea, SGRS underpins illegal-activity interdiction and accident coordination with a shared, trusted operational picture.
A single maritime picture: By integrating with other public-sector systems, SGRS standardizes the recognized maritime picture and disseminates a live mission view to responders.
Domestic ecosystem & sustainment: With HAVELSAN (software) and ASELSAN (radar/EO), the program strengthens local industry, enabling in-country maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle support.
A Brief Quote (Historical Note):
The program aims at “creating a unified and defined maritime picture through uninterrupted surveillance of the coastline and territorial waters.”
Selected Features
Mobile radar units: Up to 48 NM range, 24-hour duty, integrated VHF comms—ideal for surge operations and pop-up coverage.
SERDAR 100-Co / SERDAR-7M: LPI, FMCW, X-Band, remote control, built for fixed coastal installations.
Bottom Line
SGRS is Türkiye’s digital coastal watch, combining SERDAR radars, electro-optical sensors, and HAVELSAN C2 software to deliver a common sea picture, early warning, and rapid response—24/7 along the nation’s shores.
