BREAKING NEWS
TÜRKSAT drew significant attention at Satellite 2026, one of the most prominent international events in the satellite and space industry, by signing important cooperation agreements that reinforced its global ambitions. During the exhibition held in Washington, the company took major steps aimed at using its commercial satellite capacity more efficiently while also strengthening its position in the international satellite communications market. The agreements signed with Anuvu and Viasat are seen as concrete indicators of TÜRKSAT’s strategy to transform itself from a regional operator into a stronger and more competitive player on a global scale.
As part of these efforts, TÜRKSAT signed a capacity sales agreement with Anuvu, a company known worldwide for providing in-flight entertainment solutions and high-speed onboard connectivity for aviation and mobility markets. Under the agreement, Anuvu will purchase capacity from TÜRKSAT satellites to deliver its services. This development is especially important because it shows that TÜRKSAT’s satellite capacity is being preferred by international companies operating in highly competitive sectors. In addition, the cooperation agreement with Viasat, one of the leading companies in satellite communications, for capacity sharing further demonstrates TÜRKSAT’s intention to integrate more deeply into the global communications ecosystem.
Speaking during Satellite 2026, TÜRKSAT CEO Ahmet Hamdi Atalay emphasized that the exhibition serves not only as a showcase but also as a critical platform where the company can meet customers and business partners directly. Atalay stated that TÜRKSAT had made preparations throughout 2025 for its international market expansion and would continue fighting for the place it deserves in those markets in 2026 and beyond. He noted that many of the meetings held during the exhibition were driven by demand from international companies and added that, beyond the signed agreements, the groundwork for additional partnerships had also been established.
TÜRKSAT’s role today extends far beyond conventional broadcasting and internet services. The company actively provides broadcasting and connectivity services in many countries, while also supplying satellite communication links for UAVs and UCAVs produced and exported by major Turkish defense firms such as Baykar and TUSAŞ. This highlights TÜRKSAT’s growing importance as a strategic export contributor in both communications and defense-related infrastructure. With the commissioning of TÜRKSAT 6A and the expansion of its coverage area as far as Indonesia, the company now has an even greater opportunity to increase service sales in new international markets.
At the same time, TÜRKSAT also provided an update on the TÜRKSAT 7A satellite project, stating that specification preparations have been largely completed. According to Atalay, the company aims to finalize the process soon, sign the contract in the first half of the year, and begin production in the second half. The engineering experience and confidence gained from TÜRKSAT 6A are expected to raise the technological ambitions for the TÜRKSAT 7A program. Planned features for the new satellite may include software-defined systems that allow hardware to be managed from the ground, payloads suitable for both civilian and military purposes, and capabilities for processing satellite-generated data on the ground with artificial intelligence. In this respect, TÜRKSAT’s engagements at Satellite 2026 stand out not only as commercial partnerships for today, but also as strategic moves that will help shape the company’s long-term vision in the satellite sector.
