BREAKING NEWS
TCG 1. İnönü One of the key striking assets of the Turkish Naval Forces, TCG 1. İnönü (S360), is set to participate in NATO’s largest anti-submarine warfare (ASW) exercise, Dynamic Manta 2026. Named after the First Battle of İnönü during the Turkish War of Independence, the submarine has been in active service since 2007 and operates with a highly trained crew of approximately 45 personnel.
The exercise is organized under the planning authority of NATO Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) and hosted by Italy. It will take place between February 23 and March 6 off the coast of Sicily. Dynamic Manta stands out as NATO’s most comprehensive and complex anti-submarine warfare drill, bringing together naval and air units from allied nations to enhance joint operational readiness. The exercise focuses on sea control, deterrence, and countering access-denial scenarios in a realistic maritime environment.
Commanding Officer Captain (Navy) İsmail Koç emphasized the strategic importance of Dynamic Manta in preparing NATO forces for potential future crisis response and collective defense operations. This year, the Turkish Armed Forces are contributing with one submarine and a P-72 maritime patrol aircraft, underlining Türkiye’s strong and active presence within the Alliance.
As a member of the Gür-class submarines, TCG 1. İnönü is equipped with advanced sensor suites, modern combat systems, and low acoustic signature features, providing high survivability and operational effectiveness in underwater warfare. Its stealth, reconnaissance, surveillance, and strike capabilities make it a critical asset in NATO’s ASW concept. Through Dynamic Manta 2026, the Turkish Navy once again demonstrates its operational proficiency, interoperability with allied forces, and its commitment to collective maritime security.
