The visit at TUSAŞ facilities brought together SSB President Haluk Görgün and Romanian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Radu Miruta along with his delegation. The meeting took place within the framework of the 2026 NATO Summit and NATO Defense Industry Forum. During the visit, detailed information was provided regarding Turkey's national aviation projects, production infrastructure, and advanced technological capabilities. Görgün emphasized that such contacts strengthen strategic cooperation between the two nations.
According to a statement from the Defense Industry Agency, Görgün said "We were pleased to host Romanian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Mr. Miruta and his distinguished delegation at our TUSAŞ facilities. Through this visit, we presented our national aviation projects, production infrastructure, and advanced technological capabilities to the delegation." The statement was viewed as a strategic step to demonstrate Turkey's defense industrial capacity to NATO allies.
TUSAŞ stands as one of Turkey's most important aerospace and space industry organizations, playing a leading role in national aircraft and helicopter programs. The company holds a central position in the development of the KAAN national fighter aircraft, HÜRJET training aircraft, and various UAV/armed UAV platforms. Visits by NATO member countries such as Romania are significant for showcasing TUSAŞ's technological capabilities on the international stage. Such contacts contribute to demonstrating that Turkish defense industry products meet NATO standards.
Görgün noted that the recently delivered CAm. Roman Corvette to the Romanian Navy exemplifies the level of defense industry cooperation achieved between the two NATO allies. He stated: "The CAm. Roman Corvette recently delivered to the Romanian Navy is a concrete example of the level of defense industry cooperation between Turkey and Romania as two strong NATO allies." The corvette's design and construction demonstrate Turkey's advanced capacity in naval engineering and maritime technology.
The Turkey-Romania defense partnership constitutes a strategic cooperation model within the NATO alliance. Romania plays an important role in NATO's security architecture in Eastern Europe, while Turkey is positioned as a regional power in defense industry products and technology. The corvette delivery between the two countries represents a successful joint project example in the maritime sector. Similarly, cooperation potential exists in aviation, electronic systems, and weapons ammunition fields. Görgün emphasized future cooperation expansion, stating: "I believe that advancing this strong partnership will provide significant contributions to our joint capabilities and the Alliance's collective security."
