BREAKING NEWS
ASELSAN has commissioned a new facility for smart ammunition and underwater systems production, completed with a 40 million dollar investment to expand domestic manufacturing capacity. According to a statement submitted to the Public Disclosure Platform, the 17,360 square-meter facility strengthens robotics and automation infrastructure for air and naval defense system production. The facility contributes significantly to serial production, enhancing ASELSAN's delivery capacity, speed, and quality capabilities.
ASELSAN is among Turkey's leading defense electronics and systems integration companies. Founded in 1975, the company specializes in critical defense technologies including radar systems, communications solutions, electronic warfare systems, and missile seeker illuminators. Corporate investment strategy prioritizes domestic technology development and manufacturing infrastructure strengthening. The company's establishment of such facilities indicates the maturation of Turkey's defense industry ecosystem.
Smart ammunition systems employ advanced sensors and guidance technologies for target detection and tracking in modern weapon platforms. Underwater defense systems encompass sonar, torpedo, and mine technologies used in submarine, fast attack craft, and ship platforms. Applying robotics and automation infrastructure in these fields increases production speed while ensuring product quality and standardization. Consequently, ASELSAN achieves stronger competitive positioning in both domestic and export markets.
Turkish defense industry has made significant progress in domestic platform and system development over the past two decades. ASELSAN's contributions to projects such as the HİSAR air defense system, SİPER missile system, and submarine sensor packages demonstrate the sector's technological maturity. The commissioning of the smart ammunition and underwater systems production center will accelerate serial production transition and increase localization rates. Additionally, automation infrastructure will reduce production costs and enhance product price competitiveness in global markets.
Global defense industry invests heavily in smart ammunition and submarine technologies. Companies such as Raytheon and Lockheed Martin in the United States, and Thales and Leonardo in Europe, operate multi-billion dollar research and production facilities in these domains. Turkey's capability through ASELSAN to possess similar infrastructure enables production of NATO-standard compatible systems and addresses regional defense requirements. Simultaneously, increasing defense demands from NATO allies such as Ukraine, Poland, and Baltic states enhance interest in Turkish defense industry products.
