BREAKING NEWS
HAVELSAN has achieved a significant milestone in civil aviation simulation technologies by successfully certifying the Boeing 737NG Flight Training Device (FTD) Level 2 simulator — the first platform of its kind to be developed and certified in Türkiye. The simulator received both FNPT II MCC and FTD Level 2 certifications from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM), underscoring the country’s growing technological competence in advanced aviation training systems.
The simulator has been delivered to the Antalya Training Center of SunExpress, where it will strengthen the airline’s in-house pilot training infrastructure. With the completion of the certification process, the system is now fully operational and ready to support Boeing 737NG pilot training programs, including type rating courses, multi-crew cooperation (MCC) training, and advanced procedural exercises. This capability provides airlines with enhanced operational flexibility while reducing dependency on foreign-based training solutions.
Although FTD Level 2 devices do not include full-motion systems like Full Flight Simulators (FFS), they feature a highly accurate cockpit replica and advanced aircraft systems modeling. These devices are particularly effective for procedural training, abnormal and emergency scenario rehearsals, and crew coordination exercises. The certification based on official Boeing data packages further elevates the simulator’s credibility, positioning HAVELSAN competitively in the global civil aviation training market.
A key technological highlight of the platform is HAVELSAN’s indigenous STARVIEW-B collimated visual system. Designed to provide high-fidelity visual presentation, the system enhances pilot situational awareness and procedural accuracy. The integration of a domestically developed visual solution reinforces Türkiye’s strategic goal of technological independence in high-end simulation and electronic systems.
HAVELSAN CEO Mehmet Akif Nacar emphasized that the company continues to expand its simulator product portfolio while increasing infrastructure investments in aviation training technologies. He noted that alongside developing simulators for Türkiye’s national air platforms, HAVELSAN also delivers solutions for globally recognized aircraft manufacturers. The certification of a Boeing 737NG FTD Level 2 simulator represents a landmark achievement, demonstrating the company’s commitment to meeting international airline standards with high-quality, fully compliant training systems.
This development marks a strategic turning point for Türkiye’s civil aviation training industry, significantly contributing to reducing foreign dependency and strengthening domestic technological capabilities.
