BREAKING NEWS
Reports published in Greek Cypriot media have brought forward claims that Turkey has deployed HİSAR air defense systems within the borders of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). According to these reports, increased military activity observed around the Kyrenia region has fueled concerns on the Greek Cypriot side, prompting extensive media coverage and security-focused commentary.
Greek Cypriot sources allege that the HİSAR systems are an integral component of Turkey’s multi-layered air defense architecture. It is claimed that these systems operate in an integrated manner with radar, sensor, and command-and-control elements, significantly enhancing the air defense capabilities of the TRNC. The reported deployment is described as part of Turkey’s integrated air defense concept known as the “Steel Dome,” which aims to connect various air defense assets under a single network-centric structure.
According to the claims, the radar systems associated with HİSAR are capable of providing coverage up to approximately 120 kilometers, while interceptor missiles reportedly have engagement ranges varying between 15 and 40 kilometers depending on the variant. Greek Cypriot media further suggested that the air defense structure is not limited to missile systems alone but is supported by electronic warfare components designed to increase situational awareness and deterrence in both the air and electromagnetic domains.
The reports emphasize that such a deployment could have notable implications for the military balance in the Eastern Mediterranean. Commentaries in the Greek Cypriot press suggest that Turkey is strengthening its military presence in the TRNC through advanced technological systems, potentially altering regional security dynamics. While no official confirmation has been issued by Turkish authorities, these claims have once again placed regional air defense and security issues at the forefront of Eastern Mediterranean discussions.
