Anti-ship or ship-to-ship missiles, as the name suggests, are guided missile types that act as a deterrent, preventive, or destructive measure against enemy ships. Given their capability to be launched from the ground, land vehicles, submarines, aircraft, helicopters, or ships, ship-to-ship missiles are versatile and preventive ammunition. Roketsan ATMACA Anti-Ship Missile: Aiming to replace the existing Harpoon missile system in the Turkish Armed Forces inventory, the Atmaca Anti-Ship Missile system was conceptualized as a collaboration between Roketsan, Aselsan, and Armerkom in response to the needs of the Turkish Naval Forces Command.
Following the contract signed with Roketsan in 2009, Aselsan is in charge of the RF seeker head, while Armerkom is responsible for developing operator consoles and the firing control system. Expected to be far superior and more effective than the current anti-ship missile systems in inventory, Atmaca is designed with a range exceeding 190 kilometers. Set to be Turkey's first maritime missile, Atmaca has successfully completed its firing tests.
