The KALKAN Mobile Radar Family is one of Türkiye’s strategically important indigenous defense systems, developed to strengthen national air defense capabilities. Designed to detect, track, and identify aerial threats at low and medium altitudes, KALKAN radars serve as a critical component of modern air defense architecture. Thanks to their mobile structure, these systems can be rapidly deployed to different regions, ensuring effective protection of military bases, borders, ports, and other critical infrastructure. Integrated with command-and-control networks, KALKAN radars provide real-time situational awareness and support rapid decision-making in complex threat environments.
From a more technical perspective, the KALKAN radar family includes advanced three-dimensional surveillance radars operating primarily in the X-band frequency range. Systems such as KALKAN-I and KALKAN-II are capable of 360-degree azimuth coverage, precise altitude measurement, and simultaneous tracking of multiple targets. These radars can effectively detect aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles, even in challenging electronic warfare conditions. Newer variants, including S-band AESA-based configurations, further enhance detection range, target classification accuracy, and resistance to jamming. Developed by ASELSAN, the KALKAN Mobile Radar Family plays a vital role in Türkiye’s layered air defense concept by providing reliable early warning, flexible deployment, and seamless integration with short- and medium-range air defense systems.
