Defense industry incentives are strategic support mechanisms implemented to increase domestic and national production capacity, reduce external dependency, and enable the development of high-technology defense systems. Through these incentives, defense industry companies gain significant advantages in critical areas such as access to financing, tax benefits, and R&D support. In recent years, the defense industry has become not only a military necessity but also one of the most important drivers of technology exports and economic added value. In Türkiye, defense industry incentives strengthen public–private sector cooperation and contribute to the creation of a sustainable and competitive industrial ecosystem.
From a more technical perspective, incentives primarily focus on research and development support, investment incentive schemes, long-term low-interest financing opportunities, and programs aimed at developing qualified human resources. Advanced engineering solutions, software-based systems, radar technologies, and electronic warfare capabilities used in defense projects are largely developed through these incentives. In Türkiye, the coordination of this process is mainly carried out by the Presidency of Defence Industries, with the goal of enabling domestic companies to produce globally competitive defense products. With a long-term strategic vision, defense industry incentives go beyond financial support and become a core pillar of technological independence and strategic deterrence.
