Türkiye has taken another significant step in strengthening its defense industry with the unveiling of its locally developed armored SUV, TULGA, at TEKNOFEST İzmir. Manufactured by BMC, the vehicle was specifically designed to meet the operational needs of internal security forces, primarily the Gendarmerie General Command. An initial batch of 300 units will be produced, offering enhanced operational flexibility and security for personnel.
Equipped with a 4-cylinder diesel engine, TULGA delivers 250 horsepower and reaches speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour. With a weight of approximately 8 tons and a capacity to carry five personnel, it is engineered for durability and reliability. Its disc brakes and independent double-wishbone suspension system allow it to perform efficiently under the toughest terrain conditions, making it suitable for both urban operations and rural missions.
One of the SUV’s most notable features is its advanced armor system, designed to provide high-level protection against ballistic threats. This ensures maximum safety for personnel during critical missions, while also boosting overall operational effectiveness. The vehicle stands as a testament to Türkiye’s ability to independently design and produce modern defense technologies, reinforcing the nation’s determination to achieve self-sufficiency in defense.
With mass production scheduled to begin in 2023, TULGA highlights Türkiye’s growing capabilities in military vehicle production. Its debut at TEKNOFEST İzmir attracted significant attention, underscoring the increasing role of indigenous defense products in strengthening national security and supporting modern military requirements.
