BREAKING NEWS
BMC Automotive has been eliminated from Lot 2 of Spain's Ministry of Defence tender for the procurement of over 2,200 tactical military trucks for the Army. This primary package, valued at over 1 billion euros, covers the supply of 2,201 chassis in 4×4 and 6×6 configurations and 74 tractors. The tender board's elimination decision, documented in the 8 June 2026 minutes, resulted from failure to meet mandatory requirements for advancement to the technical evaluation phase.
The primary cause of elimination was BMC Automotive's failure to physically deliver the required sample vehicle by the 3 June 2026 deadline. The company requested a deadline extension citing preparation and delivery complexity, which Spain's Ministry of Defence rejected. Additionally, the company transported its truck on a carrier trailer without the necessary circulation authorization, preventing issuance of the temporary license plate required by the specifications. The tender documentation also recorded "serious formal deficiencies," broadening the scope of elimination.
The tender specifications explicitly stated that "failure to submit sample vehicles or required technical documentation means the testing process cannot proceed." Information from sources indicates that the absence of proper circulation authorization, preventing temporary plate issuance, constituted the fundamental reason for BMC Automotive's exclusion from this critical tender section. The "serious formal deficiencies" noted in the report are assessed to reference documentation and administrative shortcomings rather than vehicle-related issues.
BMC Automotive retains the opportunity to compete in Lot 1 of the same framework agreement. This 36 million euro budget section covers supply of 29 heavy 8×8 trucks with 15-ton capacity capable of fording without prior preparation (VSP). These vehicles are specialized tactical platforms designed to traverse coastal areas, beaches and salt water. In Lot 1, BMC Automotive continues direct competition against a consortium comprising Escribano Mechanical & Engineering (EM&E), Daimler Truck, Iveco, Scania and Indra.
Spain's Ministry of Defence aims to make a decisive step in land logistics modernization through this contract and equip its units with state-of-the-art vehicles for operational protection and regional control in both national and multinational operations. The contract anticipates procurement of approximately 2,300 trucks over four years. Lot 2 scope includes supply of 1,051 medium 4×4 (4-ton) trucks, 797 heavy 6×6 (10-ton) trucks, 353 heavy 8×8 (15-ton) trucks and 74 100-ton tractors.
