BREAKING NEWS
OTOKAR-designed 6×6 class ARMA and 4×4 COBRA II armored vehicles are undergoing evaluation at the Malaysian Armed Forces' Kunak test facility. The ARMA platform is being tested with a 25-millimeter MIZRAK weapon turret, while the COBRA II is undergoing assessment in an open-turret configuration. This development represents a tangible indicator of deepening defense sector cooperation between Turkey and Malaysia.
In April 2026, at the DSA 2026 exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur, OTOKAR signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with Boustead Holdings Berhad, one of Malaysia's largest defense industry organizations. This agreement extends beyond platform procurement to align with Malaysia's objective of fleet modernization with high local content participation. The partnership framework envisions cooperation in areas including local production, maintenance, and repair operations. In May 2026, Malaysian Defense Minister Khaled Nordin visited Turkey for the LMS B2 corvette procurement project under STM prime contractor leadership, during which he held discussions with OTOKAR representatives.
OTOKAR Military Vehicles General Manager Assistant Sedef Vehbi articulated the company's vision: "We are prepared to translate our global knowledge base into solutions best suited to Malaysia's defense requirements. Our military vehicles operate in approximately 50 countries worldwide; we are committed to converting this experience into solutions that add value to regional security. We believe we will establish strong synergy with our local partner Boustead Holdings Berhad."
Turkish defense industry continues to play a significant role in Malaysia's modernization efforts. The 8×8 class armored vehicles developed by FNSS, produced jointly with Malaysian company Deftech as the AV8 GEMPITA, have resulted in the delivery of 257 vehicles in 12 different configurations. These vehicles are currently operated by the Malaysian Armed Forces. OTOKAR's vehicles are currently operational in more than 40 countries, serving in United Nations and NATO missions, and reinforcing its position as a reliable supplier in the region.
Malaysia Armed Forces' objective to modernize aging platforms in its inventory creates a strategic opportunity for Turkish defense companies. Increasing security requirements in the region and developing Turkey-Malaysia relations are opening doors for new cooperation models. Successful references from companies such as OTOKAR and FNSS ensure that Turkish solutions are preferred in meeting the needs of Malaysia's security forces.
