BREAKING NEWS
The Turkish Ministry of National Defense reported that the Turkish Navy frigate TCG Salihreis continues its mission in the Eastern Mediterranean under NATO’s Operation Sea Guardian (OSG) Focused Operation (FOCOPS) 2025-1, which runs from January 22 to February 6, 2025. The operation aims to enhance maritime situational awareness, ensure safe navigation, and strengthen cooperation with civilian maritime actors in the region.
As part of the “Maritime Situational Awareness Approach,” TCG Salihreis conducted a planned visit to a fishing vessel sailing off the coast of Egypt on January 25, 2025. During the visit, the ship’s crew provided information on maritime safety, communication procedures, and the reporting of suspicious activities, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between naval forces and civilian mariners.
This engagement aligns with NATO’s objectives to strengthen maritime awareness in the Eastern Mediterranean, deter illegal activities, and promote a safe and secure maritime environment. The Turkish Navy’s contribution through such initiatives underlines Türkiye’s commitment to Allied maritime security efforts and its proactive role in maintaining regional stability.
By maintaining direct communication with civilian vessels, TCG Salihreis contributes to fostering trust and enhancing coordination between military and civilian maritime entities. These awareness visits are seen as vital to improving safety at sea and ensuring that both naval and civilian operators act within a framework of mutual understanding and security.
