BREAKING NEWS
The Danish Ministry of Defence announced on October 22, 2026, that it will procure the Anthem ground-launched cruise missile system developed by Covenant Industries. The ministry stated that this decision aims to strengthen Denmark's national and collective deterrence capacity. The systems were noted to be among the long-range precision strike capabilities requested by NATO from its member states.
Danish Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus stated regarding the procurement decision: "This step is important for Denmark to strengthen its defense capacity and increase its responsibility-sharing within NATO. It also sends a strong signal that we have the capability to respond." Authorities did not disclose the number of missiles to be procured, their cost, or delivery timelines, citing security reasons. The relatively short delivery period and competitive pricing were identified as decisive factors in the system selection.
Covenant Industries established a 10,000-square-meter facility in Leipzig, Germany, as part of its production activities for NATO allies in Europe. The company plans to begin production at the facility in 2027 and produce 1,000 missiles in the first year. Production capacity is expected to increase to 5,000 missiles by 2028. The company targets sourcing more than 95 percent of components used in the European version from European suppliers. Missile assembly will take place at the Leipzig facility, while warhead integration will occur at customer nations in subsequent phases.
Equipped with a jet engine, Anthem was developed with low cost and serial production suitability in mind. The system can carry a 200-kilogram warhead. The missile's range is reported to exceed 1,000 kilometers, though some sources indicate this value could reach 1,500 kilometers. Covenant Industries aims to maintain the unit cost of the low-cost missile below $1 million. This pricing is significantly lower than the typical cost of comparable cruise missile systems, which generally range in the millions of dollars.
Germany is also evaluating Anthem to address gaps in long-range strike capability. The German Ministry of Defence is conducting discussions with Covenant Industries, though no official procurement announcement has been made. German Army Commander General Christian Freuding confirmed that the Bundeswehr seeks to procure new low-cost cruise missiles for mass use and is evaluating two systems on the market. Anthem is reported to be among the candidates being evaluated alongside the Flamingo cruise missile developed by Ukraine's Fire Point company.
