BREAKING NEWS
Meteksan Savunma showcased its National Synthetic Aperture Sonar System, MİLSAS, at SAHA 2026 International Defense, Aerospace and Space Industry Fair. Developed to provide high-resolution imaging of the seabed and underwater targets, the system represents a new level in Türkiye’s domestic and national engineering capabilities in underwater technologies. Displayed at the Istanbul Expo Center, MİLSAS stands out as one of Meteksan Savunma’s key solutions in the field of underwater systems.
Meteksan Savunma develops technologies across a wide range of areas, from radar and electronic warfare solutions to sonar systems, platform subsystems and training simulators. With NATO-standard systems actively used in the field, the company provides sustainable solutions for the needs of Türkiye as well as friendly and allied countries. Its strong production infrastructure, high manufacturing capacity and broad supplier network support the timely and reliable execution of its projects.
MİLSAS is an advanced synthetic aperture sonar system developed to overcome the resolution limits of conventional sonar systems. The system combines multiple narrow-aperture sonar measurements collected during platform movement in a phase-coherent manner to create a wide synthetic aperture. This enables underwater targets to be imaged at a much higher level of detail. By processing high-frequency acoustic signals, MİLSAS produces sharp and clear images that provide major advantages in underwater detection and classification.
The system’s wide coverage area and superior image quality make MİLSAS a versatile solution for different missions. It can be used in mine detection, seabed mapping, critical infrastructure inspection, energy exploration activities and change detection. By providing highly accurate data, the system accelerates operational decision-making processes and directly contributes to mission effectiveness.
In military use, MİLSAS is expected to play an important role against mine threats. Detecting mines in sea lanes, port entrances, naval base areas and critical maritime passages is vital for naval forces. Thanks to its high-resolution imaging capability, MİLSAS can support maritime security operations by making it easier to identify small and difficult-to-detect underwater targets. When used together with unmanned underwater or surface platforms, the system could also enable wider areas to be scanned with reduced operational risk.
In the civilian field, MİLSAS offers a technology that can be used in critical activities such as energy lines, underwater cables, pipelines, port infrastructure and seabed research. Detecting changes on the seabed over time, inspecting underwater structures and obtaining reliable data for energy exploration increase the system’s potential beyond defense applications. In this respect, MİLSAS stands out as a competitive indigenous sonar solution for both military and civilian markets.
With MİLSAS, developed under the approach of “Technology That Clarifies the Depths,” Meteksan Savunma aims to increase its international competitiveness in underwater technologies. Alongside its technology development activities, the company also seeks to contribute to defense industry exports through human resource investments, production capability and international cooperation. Displayed at SAHA 2026, MİLSAS demonstrates Türkiye’s level in high-resolution indigenous sonar systems and draws attention as a next-generation solution capable of delivering reliable performance under challenging underwater conditions.
