ASELSAN showcased its latest generation maritime defense systems at the EURONAVAL international naval defense exhibition in Paris. Running through November 6, the exhibition features ASELSAN's close-in weapon systems GÖKDENIZ and GÖKSUR, autonomous underwater kamikaze vehicle KILIÇ, remotely operated stabilized weapon system SMASH 30 (MUHAFIZ), and autonomous underwater kamikaze vehicle TUFAN.
ASELSAN General Manager Ahmet Akyol stated that the company conducts approximately one-fifth of its operations in the maritime sector and strengthens Turkish Naval Forces with unmanned systems. Akyol emphasized that ASELSAN provides solutions across maritime aviation and coastal security domains, with the corporate objective of scaling these operations to global markets. He noted that modern naval warfare encompasses both conventional threats and asymmetric threats such as drones, requiring innovative countermeasures.
Akyol explained that ASELSAN has adapted its existing products to address emerging threats, with cost-effective unmanned systems gaining prominence in deterrence strategies. The SMASH 30 gun system, operational in 18 countries worldwide, has been developed into a new variant capable of detecting and engaging drone threats from naval platforms. The system can now identify and neutralize Shahed-type drones from ship-mounted positions, representing a significant capability upgrade.
Addressing rising threats to commercial shipping, Akyol noted that tankers and cargo vessels face increasing attack risks across regions from the Strait of Hormuz to the Black Sea. ASELSAN has adapted its GÖKDENIZ and GÖKSUR close-in air defense systems into containerized versions suitable for installation on commercial vessels, with these systems already being exported. Akyol highlighted that TUFAN autonomous underwater vehicle was displayed at full scale for the first time at an international exhibition, while the KILIÇ system operates as an integrated intelligent software-guided platform with a range of 200 nautical miles.
Additional systems displayed at the exhibition include mobile air defense solutions, drone defense systems, and underwater sonar platforms FERSAH and DÜFAS. Akyol noted that the MERCAN 100 periscope for submarines was presented in its final form for the first time at the fair. He explained that periscope technology had previously been subject to embargo restrictions, leading ASELSAN and Turkish Armed Forces to initiate domestication efforts, successfully incorporating artificial intelligence-enhanced features into the system.
Akyol emphasized that ASELSAN's ability to equip vessels with integrated solutions ranging from sonar to air defense represents a capability possessed by very few companies globally. He noted that the company applies capabilities developed for armed unmanned aerial vehicles to submarine warfare operations and coastal defense, with unmanned systems incorporating these advanced features. Akyol concluded by attributing ASELSAN's achievements to Turkish national support and strategic decisions, expressing commitment to advancing the company's position in global markets.
