ASELSAN presented the containerized configuration of its GÖKDENİZ air defense system for the first time at EURONAVAL 2026 in France. Designed to operate independently from host platforms, the system features its own power source and operator environment. Its container-based architecture enables rapid transportation to required locations and redeployment as needed. The solution provides flexible protection for civilian vessels, commercial tankers, and critical infrastructure against drone and air threats.
ASELSAN stands as a leading organization within Turkey's defense industrial ecosystem, possessing deep expertise in radar, electronic warfare, and sensor technologies. The company aims to adapt the proven field capabilities of the KORKUT Air Defense System to maritime platforms, delivering multi-layered protection against emerging threats. ASELSAN's initiative increases localization rates within Turkey's defense sector while simultaneously expanding export potential.
The portable version of GÖKDENİZ addresses the requirement for rapid adaptability and operational readiness in the evolving maritime security environment. The system is engineered to counter unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), small air targets, and high-speed threats characteristic of modern air defense challenges. The container format accommodates diverse operational scenarios including shipboard installation, coastal facility deployment, and mobile positioning. This flexibility provides a significant advantage, particularly for protecting commercial vessels operating through strategically important sea lanes.
Turkish defense industry has achieved substantial progress in air defense systems in recent years. Platforms such as HİSAR-A+, SİPER, and GÖKDOĞAN have been developed to NATO standards and remain competitive with international counterparts. ASELSAN's containerized GÖKDENİZ solution represents the extension of this successful track record into the maritime domain. Similarly, global defense markets demonstrate that systems like NASAMS, Patriot, and Iron Dome have built extensive customer bases through adaptable versions suitable for various platforms and environments.
Systems displayed at the exhibition, including the TUFAN kamikaze unmanned surface vehicle and KILIÇ kamikaze autonomous underwater vehicle, demonstrate ASELSAN's integrated approach to maritime defense. The MERCAN 100 Electro-Optical System and AI-enabled AINEO BOX convert detection and image processing capabilities into operational performance for maritime platforms. Export potential of such systems enhances Turkey's defense industry revenues while providing technological superiority to allied nations.
