Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has converted a commercial business jet into a multi-mission platform equipped with electronic warfare and intelligence collection sensors. Called ELLYON, this system can simultaneously conduct radar and communications jamming operations in a single mission. ELTA Systems, a subsidiary based in Ashdod, has been converting commercial business jets such as the General Dynamics Gulfstream G550 into specialized intelligence platforms for the Israeli Air Force and foreign customers for decades.

The core feature of the ELLYON platform is its AI-based multi-mission management system that processes data collected from onboard sensors and automatically generates intelligence insights from raw data. The system transmits results in real-time via satellite communications to command centers, ground control stations, and other aircraft operating in the vicinity. ELTA Systems CEO Dror Bar described ELLYON as a meaningful step in enabling military commanders to convert raw intelligence into actionable information more rapidly.

The decision to use a commercial business jet as the airframe reflects Israel Aerospace Industries' strategic approach to reducing procurement and operational costs. With its platform-independent architecture, ELLYON can be integrated into different large-class business jets, offering customers flexibility. This approach aims to deliver a flexible and cost-effective solution compared to larger military aircraft, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.

ELTA Systems' portfolio includes the Eitam signals intelligence system, the Shavit signals intelligence platform, and the AI-assisted Oron platform that saw active service against Hamas. These systems demonstrate Israel's extensive experience and technological competence in intelligence and electronic warfare. IAI Board Chairman Boaz Levy noted that the company has taken a pioneering role in developing advanced intelligence aircraft by combining technological innovation with operational expertise.

The company has not yet announced a firm order or operational entry timeline for ELLYON, nor has it clarified when the aircraft will enter operational service with the Israeli Air Force or potential export customers. Nevertheless, the objective of shortening the intelligence-to-action cycle represents a significant technical advancement compared to previous IAI intelligence aircraft.
