The Fırtına Howitzer project started in 1995, with the first prototype unveiled in 1997. Its range was increased to 40 km in 2000. The howitzer was designed and manufactured by Turkish engineers and workers at the 1st Main Maintenance Center Command in Arifiye, Sakarya.

Range and Firing Capacity: Can fire M107, M549A1, and ERFB/BB munitions with ranges varying between 18-40 km. Capable of firing three rounds in 15 seconds.
Mobility: Effectively maneuverable in challenging terrains thanks to its 12 hydro-pneumatic suspension units.
Power and Durability: Has a power-to-weight ratio of 21 hp/t and is ideally durable for long-duration operations.

Ammunition Compatibility: Compatible with NATO standard 155mm howitzer munitions. Features an automatic ammunition loading system with a capacity of 48 rounds.
Physical Characteristics: Weighs 47 tons, with a maximum speed of 65 km/h and a crew capacity of 5.
Barrel and Ammunition Loading: Equipped with a 52-caliber barrel, and can load 48 rounds in 20 minutes using the Poyraz ammunition vehicle.
