The Boran-7 International Sniper Competition, hosted at the Foça Gendarmerie Commando Training Command in İzmir, concluded with an impressive performance by Turkish teams. Held between October 6–13, the event brought together elite snipers from Türkiye and 20 friendly and allied countries. Designed to emphasize the importance of sniping, enhance professional culture and strengthen operational confidence, the competition also served as a platform for experience-sharing within counterterrorism operations.
A total of 48 teams — 13 from Türkiye and 35 from 20 foreign nations — participated, with 96 snipers competing across challenging stages. The event was closely monitored by 5 judges and 26 domestic observers. In addition to the main competition, a “Different Caliber Sniper Challenge” was held, testing participants' adaptability across various weapon systems.
The Distinguished Observer Day featured striking demonstrations, including aerial displays by the “Steel Wings,” live firing events and parachute jumps. One of the standout moments occurred when a sniper representing the Gendarmerie Special Operations Command (JÖAK) achieved a remarkable shot: hitting a ground target from a helicopter at a distance of 350 meters with pinpoint accuracy. The performance drew significant attention from both local and international observers.
The final rankings showcased Türkiye’s dominance in sniper proficiency. The Turkish Special Forces Command’s 2nd Team won first place, while the 1st Team secured second. The Gendarmerie General Command’s 1st Team completed the sweep by finishing third. The awards ceremony was held with the participation of Gendarmerie General Commander Gen. Ali Çardakcı, who presented trophies to the winning personnel. The event is expected to grow further in scope and international participation in the coming years.
