The BORAN-8 International Sniper Rifle Competition, hosted by the Gendarmerie General Command, concluded as a prestigious event where participants from 20 countries competed in challenging shooting scenarios. Sniper rifles designed and manufactured by MKE demonstrated Turkish defense industry capabilities through their field performance. The Police Special Operations Command team using the MKE KN-12 Sniper Rifle secured first place, while the Land Forces Command team using the MKE KNT-76 Sniper Rifle achieved third place.
MKE maintains an important position in the sniper rifle systems sector, carrying the legacy of Turkey's first domestically designed and manufactured sniper rifle, the BORA-12. Combining centuries of firearms manufacturing capability with modern technology, MKE plays a pioneering role in defense sector localization and national production. The company's developed products are used by various Turkish Armed Forces units in operational missions and meet international standards.
The KN-12 Sniper Rifle is distinguished as Turkey's first variable-caliber sniper rifle. The system features an effective range of 1,500 meters and was developed for long-range and high-precision shooting tasks with its precise trigger mechanism, cold-forged barrel, and ergonomic buttstock design. The rifle's design provides flexibility to adapt to different operational requirements, offering users high accuracy and reliability. The KNT-76, refined based on field feedback, features an ergonomic buttstock, bipod, and improved trigger system, providing precise shooting capability up to 800 meters.
The success achieved at BORAN-8 represents an important indicator regarding increased localization rates in Turkey's defense industry ecosystem and strengthened national production capacity in sniper rifle systems. MKE's rifles achieving success at an international standards competition demonstrates Turkey's technological competence and operational effectiveness in this critical weapons category. Sniper systems are indispensable tools in modern military operations for precision target neutralization and long-range surveillance missions.
In the global defense sector, sniper rifles are developed by various nations. Systems designed to NATO standards are typically manufactured in 7.62 mm NATO caliber or variable-caliber options. MKE's KN-12 and KNT-76 models comply with these international standards while demonstrating Turkey's indigenous design and manufacturing capacity. The products that placed at BORAN-8, while meeting Turkish Armed Forces operational requirements, also carry competitive advantage in potential export markets.
