BREAKING NEWS
The Turkish Armed Forces and security units are being equipped with domestically produced armored vehicles designed to meet the needs of modern battlefields. Deliveries of the Cobra II, produced by Otokar, the Ejder Yalçın, developed by Nurol Makina, and the Kirpi, manufactured by BMC, are progressing rapidly. This initiative represents a significant step toward Turkey’s goal of localization and independence in the defense industry.
Testing of Cobra II vehicles is ongoing in Sakarya, with 200 units scheduled for delivery by the end of March 2017. Featuring advanced ballistic protection, superior maneuverability, and a modular structure, the Cobra II stands out among modern armored vehicles. During serial production, Aselsan’s SARP Remote-Controlled Weapon Systems are being integrated into the vehicles, enhancing both firepower and crew safety.
The Ejder Yalçın distinguishes itself with its high protection capacity against mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Its flexible design allows for multiple mission configurations, making it suitable for both internal security operations and cross-border missions. Meanwhile, the Kirpi vehicles by BMC have proven effective in convoy protection and troop transport duties.
As of 2017, Turkey’s defense industry has gained significant momentum with these next-generation armored vehicle deliveries. Their integration into the military inventory boosts the operational strength of the Turkish Armed Forces while providing security units with enhanced capabilities against modern threats. At the same time, this development marks an important milestone in reducing Turkey’s dependency on foreign defense technologies.
