BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s defense industry has marked a significant achievement with the introduction of the "Tuna" engine, the nation’s first indigenously developed mass-production engine. Designed and produced entirely by Turkish engineers at BMC Power’s Arifiye facilities, the engine was officially unveiled during a special ceremony, symbolizing a critical step toward greater independence in defense technologies.
Deputy President of the Presidency of Defense Industries, Celal Sami Tüfekci, emphasized in his speech that the mass production of Tuna is not only a technological breakthrough but also a reflection of Türkiye’s determination to strengthen its sovereignty in defense. He highlighted that the engine demonstrates Türkiye’s growing capacity for high-tech, value-added manufacturing on the international stage.
BMC Executive Board Member and CEO Murat Yalçıntaş stated that the domestically produced engine is a source of great pride for the nation, enabling Türkiye to gain strategic advantages in defense. He revealed that the engine will soon be integrated into Fırtına self-propelled howitzers, and later into the serial production of the Altay main battle tank, paving the way for a stronger and more independent Turkish military force.
BMC Power General Manager Mustafa Kaval explained that development of the Tuna engine began in 2018 and was successfully completed after undergoing extensive testing in diverse climate and geographical conditions. He added that the first 20 engines are ready for delivery and that the integration of domestically powered tactical wheeled vehicles into the Turkish Armed Forces inventory will further enhance operational capability. Kaval also noted that BMC Power is currently working on engine projects ranging from 400 to 1500 horsepower to meet future defense needs.
The launch of the Tuna engine represents far more than a production milestone—it is a strategic step toward reducing foreign dependence in land platforms and a symbol of Türkiye’s advancing defense industry. With its entry into service, the Tuna engine paves the way for a stronger, more self-reliant military infrastructure.
