Türkiye continues to strengthen its position as a leading defense exporter within NATO, as Estonia officially incorporated 50 Turkish armored vehicles into its military inventory. Developed by Otokar and Nurol Makina, the ARMA 6x6 and NMS YÖRÜK 4x4 armored vehicles were delivered on an accelerated schedule and showcased at a ceremony held at Nursipalu Training Grounds. The event was attended by Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, senior military officials, and representatives from the Turkish defense industry.
Minister Pevkur praised the collaboration, emphasizing the timely delivery and operational performance of the vehicles:
“These vehicles have shown excellent performance during trials. Their delivery in such a short time is a remarkable achievement. Our goal is to ensure our army is equipped with the best systems available — we must be ready to defend our nation under any circumstances.”
The ARMA 6x6 vehicles were procured for Estonia’s 2nd Infantry Brigade, which previously lacked wheeled armored units, while the NMS YÖRÜK 4x4 models will expand the mobility and protection capabilities of smaller tactical teams within both infantry brigades.
Otokar’s Deputy General Manager for Military Vehicles, Sedef Vehbi, highlighted that the project demonstrates Türkiye’s ability to meet NATO standards with precision and reliability:
“We signed the contract in October 2023 and have already completed deliveries ahead of schedule. The feedback from Estonian forces has been very positive. This cooperation strengthens both Otokar’s and Türkiye’s credibility in the European defense market.”
Vehbi also noted that the Estonian deal became a key reference for a major armored vehicle contract in Romania, further expanding Turkish defense influence in Eastern Europe.
Nurol Makina’s Strategic Planning and Market Development Director, Emre Akın, stated that the YÖRÜK 4x4 vehicles were customized specifically for Estonia’s harsh terrain and climate, including structural modifications to the hull and armor configuration.
“Our vehicles have proven their technical maturity and top-tier protection standards. The Estonian armed forces are highly professional and demanded a tailored solution — we delivered exactly that. We’re confident these vehicles will play a vital role in NATO’s deterrence capabilities in the region.”
Both companies underscored their intent to expand further in Europe by establishing local engineering, maintenance, and supply chain subsidiaries to provide long-term support. The successful completion of this project marks another milestone for Türkiye’s defense industry — not only reinforcing NATO’s eastern defenses but also demonstrating the growing reliability, quality, and global competitiveness of Turkish land systems.
