BREAKING NEWS
Turkish defense and maritime technologies company STM (Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc.) has officially introduced its Multi-Role Support Ship (MRSS) design to the international stage. The unveiling took place at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2025) in Malaysia, where the MRSS drew attention for its multi-mission flexibility and innovative design tailored for both combat and humanitarian operations.
STM’s General Manager Özgür Güleryüz stated that the MRSS was developed to meet the Royal Malaysian Navy’s operational requirements, emphasizing its dual-use nature. “This new-generation support ship is designed not only for combat environments but also for disaster relief and humanitarian missions. The MRSS offers a cost-effective solution for long-duration operations,” Güleryüz noted. He also added that this project represents a continuation of STM’s collaboration with Malaysia under the LMS Batch-2 program.
The MRSS features a 153-meter length, 9,700-ton displacement, and can carry 500 amphibious personnel. It is capable of transporting 14 main battle tanks and 9 amphibious vehicles, while supporting simultaneous operations of two 15-ton helicopters. With an 8,000-nautical-mile range and 30-day endurance, the MRSS is designed for a wide variety of missions, including amphibious operations, at-sea logistics, flag showing, command and control, reconnaissance, medical support, evacuation, and search-and-rescue. Its onboard medical facilities also allow it to serve as a fully equipped hospital ship during crisis situations.
According to STM’s technical data, the MRSS is equipped with one 76 mm main gun, four 12.7 mm remote-controlled stabilized weapon systems, two chaff/IR decoy launchers, and two LCM landing craft with RHIB platforms. These systems provide the ship with both strong defensive capabilities and high operational flexibility in complex maritime missions.
With the MRSS platform, STM aims to expand Turkish naval engineering capabilities into new markets. The project with Malaysia marks the beginning of a potential ship family that could be exported to other friendly and allied nations. The Royal Malaysian Navy is expected to procure ships of this class in the coming years, and STM’s locally tailored, innovative design positions Turkey as a key player in the region’s naval modernization efforts.
