Türkiye has completed an important stage in the development of a domestic navigation system in line with its goals of digital sovereignty and independence in critical technologies. The signing ceremony for the Domestic Navigation Project, held under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, stood out as a strategic step aimed at increasing national capacity in location and mapping technologies. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır emphasized that location, map and navigation technologies are among the most critical fields of the digital age. He noted that these technologies play a decisive role not only for individual users but also in many areas such as urbanization, transportation, the economy, healthcare and public services.
Minister Kacır also drew attention to the multi-layered effects of digitalization, stating that institutions integrating innovative technologies into their business processes gain a stronger position in global competition. He added that countries capable of developing, producing and securely managing such technologies are better able to reinforce their economic independence. Stressing that data generation, processing and secure management are among the cornerstones of digital transformation, Kacır said domestic navigation systems would play a vital role in strengthening data sovereignty and reducing foreign dependency. He underlined the strategic importance of Türkiye producing national solutions tailored to its own needs.
Within the scope of the project, Başarsoft, BVB Navigasyon and TOGG have joined forces to develop a domestic navigation application. The planned system is expected to be built on an up-to-date and reliable data infrastructure capable of serving a high number of users. In addition, the application will benefit from artificial intelligence and big data technologies, creating added value in a wide range of areas including security, transportation, emergency management, sustainability, logistics, smart cities, e-commerce, tourism and disaster response. In this respect, the initiative goes beyond being merely a navigation application and represents a broad technology move supporting Türkiye’s wider digital transformation vision.
The domestic navigation application is intended to become a strong alternative to foreign platforms while enhancing Türkiye’s digital independence. Minister Kacır stated that the long-term goal is for the project to evolve into a technology product with international market appeal and global brand value. The signing ceremony was also attended by Bilişim Vadisi General Manager Erkam Tüzgen, BVB Navigasyon Chairman Alim Küçükpehlivan, Ministry of Industry and Technology National Technology General Director Sadullah Uzun, TOGG CEO Gürcan Karakaş and Başarsoft General Manager Tuncay Küçükpehlivan. The signing is regarded as one of the important developments opening a new chapter for Türkiye’s domestic and national technology ecosystem.
