BREAKING NEWS
Baykar, one of Türkiye’s leading defense and aerospace companies, continues to expand its global footprint through its subsidiary Piaggio Aerospace. In a significant milestone, Piaggio Aerospace has successfully completed the delivery of its first P.180 Avanti EVO to Japan-based operator Nakanihon Air, strengthening its presence in the Asia-Pacific aviation market.
The delivery flight originated from Genoa, Italy, and followed a long-range route over Greece, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, India, and Vietnam before landing at Nagoya Airport in Japan. This intercontinental journey highlighted the Avanti EVO’s long-range capability, operational efficiency, and reliability, key features that make the aircraft attractive for both commercial and special-mission operations.
In parallel with the delivery, Japan’s Civil Aviation Bureau, JCAB, officially recognized the P.180 Avanti Type Certificate for the Japanese market. This approval enables the aircraft to be legally operated in Japan and paves the way for future sales and operational expansion within the country.
Piaggio Aerospace CEO Giovanni Tomassini stated that the company is particularly excited to see the Avanti EVO operating in Japan, emphasizing that the aircraft is already used by numerous operators worldwide in a wide range of roles. He underlined that the platform’s versatility makes it suitable for special missions as well as commercial and charter operations. Tomassini also noted that within just three months, the Avanti EVO entered two new markets—Türkiye and Japan—confirming strong international demand as Piaggio Aerospace plans to increase annual production to 25–30 aircraft.
With this delivery, Nakanihon Air has become the first operator of the P.180 Avanti in Japan, demonstrating its commitment to fleet modernization and service expansion. The company currently operates a fleet consisting of 57 helicopters and seven fixed-wing aircraft for charter services, transportation, emergency medical missions, and aerial surveillance. The addition of the Avanti EVO is expected to significantly enhance its operational flexibility and performance.
