BREAKING NEWS
The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) continue to strengthen their capabilities with the integration of domestically developed defense systems. Roketsan, one of Türkiye’s leading defense companies, has delivered a new batch of OMTAS medium-range anti-tank missiles to the Turkish Land Forces Command. The delivery was officially announced during the Ministry of National Defense’s weekly press briefing by Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, the ministry’s Press and Public Relations Advisor.
OMTAS stands out as a modern anti-tank weapon system designed to counter armored threats on the battlefield. Capable of operating day and night under all weather conditions, the missile is equipped with an infrared imaging seeker, and features both fire-and-forget and fire-and-update modes. Its RF data link allows for target lock-on before or after launch, providing significant operational flexibility and high precision in engagements.
The system can effectively engage both stationary and moving targets and offers the capability of firing from behind cover, which is a vital advantage for ground forces. With its ability to conduct coordinate-based strikes and its insensitive munition characteristics against liquid fuel fires and bullet impacts, OMTAS is well-suited to the modern combat environment.
From a technical standpoint, OMTAS has a diameter of 160 mm, a length of 1.8 meters, and weighs 35 kg including the launch tube. It boasts an effective range between 200 meters and 4 kilometers and is armed with a tandem-charge warhead capable of penetrating advanced armor systems. This makes it a formidable weapon against modern main battle tanks and other armored vehicles.
Designed for use on various land platforms, OMTAS provides adaptability across different combat scenarios. With this latest delivery, the Turkish Armed Forces have further enhanced their deterrence and effectiveness against armored threats, marking another milestone for the Turkish defense industry.
