BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye continues to expand its capabilities in the unmanned aerial systems domain with the introduction of BOYGA, a rotary-wing mini UAV designed to carry and release an 81-millimeter mortar round. Developed under the coordination of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), BOYGA represents a significant step in enhancing tactical-level strike capabilities. SSB President Professor İsmail Demir recently shared footage of the system’s test flight, highlighting its completely indigenous development.
BOYGA stands out with its advanced ballistic estimation algorithm, which enables it to drop its mortar munition precisely on target. This precision capability provides a major operational advantage, particularly in missions requiring accurate elimination of fixed or concealed threats. The UAV’s rotary-wing design ensures stable flight and effective maneuvering, allowing it to operate efficiently in both urban and rugged environments.
The BOYGA project is being carried out by STM, a company known for its expertise in fixed- and rotary-wing loitering munitions, reconnaissance UAVs and other unmanned defense platforms. The mortar integration was completed by the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE), demonstrating strong collaboration across Türkiye’s defense industry organizations. Together, these capabilities reflect a growing ecosystem of coordinated, indigenous solutions.
With a maximum takeoff weight of 15.6 kilograms, BOYGA can remain airborne for up to 35 minutes while carrying a single 81 mm mortar round. It can reach altitudes of up to 1,500 meters, making it suitable for border security missions, close support operations and engagements in complex terrain. Its combination of precision strike capability and compact size enables tactical units to neutralize threats safely from stand-off ranges.
As the newest member of Türkiye’s expanding mini UAV family, BOYGA enhances the country’s strike UAV ecosystem with a lightweight, accurate and mission-flexible platform—further strengthening its technological independence in defense.
