BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s General Directorate of Security has expanded its air power with the delivery of three domestically produced platforms. At a ceremony held on April 13, 2026, at TUSAŞ facilities in Kahramankazan, one AKSUNGUR unmanned aerial vehicle, one T-129 ATAK attack helicopter, and one T-70 general purpose helicopter were formally handed over to the Aviation Department of the police force. The event was attended by Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, Presidency of Defence Industries head Haluk Görgün, and TUSAŞ General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu.
The delivery marks another important step in the modernization of police aviation with locally built systems. According to Anadolu Agency, the addition of AKSUNGUR raises the number of advanced UAVs in the organization to 30, while the arrival of the new ATAK and T-70 also increases the domestic content ratio within the helicopter fleet. Taken together, the three platforms are expected to reinforce aerial surveillance, rapid response, and operational mobility for the General Directorate of Security.
AKSUNGUR is particularly significant because of its long-endurance surveillance capability. TUSAŞ states that the platform can operate at up to 40,000 feet, remain airborne for up to 50 hours, and carry out beyond-line-of-sight missions through SATCOM links. In practical terms, this makes it especially useful for wide-area monitoring and long-duration security missions. This last sentence is an inference based on TUSAŞ’s published endurance and communications profile for the aircraft.
The helicopter deliveries also strengthen the rotary-wing side of the police air fleet. During the ceremony, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said the newly delivered aircraft reflected the country’s self-confidence and described the Turkish Police as the first police organization to operate both attack helicopters and advanced UAV capability. That framing highlights how the institution is evolving beyond conventional police aviation toward a broader security air support model. This final sentence is an inference based on the minister’s statement and the types of aircraft delivered.
More broadly, the delivery appears to be part of a longer-term transformation plan rather than a one-off reinforcement. Recent reporting linked to the same procurement track has indicated future deliveries of additional GÖKBEY helicopters and AKSUNGUR UAVs to the police inventory. If that plan continues, the April 13 handover will be seen as one stage in a wider shift toward a more indigenous and more capable police aviation structure in Türkiye. This final point is an inference based on the current delivery and related reporting on planned future acquisitions.
