Parliamentary leaders attending the NATO Parliamentary Summit visited the Özdemir Bayraktar National Technology Center operated by Baykar Technologies. The visit was hosted by Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş and included parliament speakers from allied nations and senior parliamentary representatives. The delegation toured the facility one week before the NATO summit scheduled for Ankara.
Baykar stands as a leading enterprise within Turkey's defense industrial ecosystem, driving significant advances in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and guided munitions. Since its establishment, the company has contributed to Turkey's strategic objectives in indigenous technology development and national production. Baykar's product portfolio spans globally recognized platforms such as the Bayraktar TB2 and TB3, extending to next-generation guided munitions like Mızrak. These systems enhance Turkey's defense industrial technological capacity and localization rates, strengthening the nation's defense independence.
During the visit, the delegation was guided by Baykar Board Chairman and Chief Technology Officer Selçuk Bayraktar through briefings on the company's defense technology activities, innovative projects, and research and development initiatives. The delegation received detailed explanations regarding the design and functionality of systems such as Mızrak, a long-range intelligent loitering munition engineered for deep-strike missions. Such systems represent Turkey's strategic defense capabilities. The visit provided NATO allies with direct exposure to Turkey's defense technology capacity and innovation.
Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş met with Canan Bayraktar, widow of the late Özdemir Bayraktar, during the visit. Özdemir Bayraktar, a pioneer of Turkey's National Technology Initiative and developer of indigenous combat UAVs, played a significant role in defense industry history. The continuation of Özdemir Bayraktar's legacy, through his son Selçuk Bayraktar, forms the foundation of Baykar's corporate identity and strategic mission. This historical context demonstrates the company's commitment to localization and national technology development.
The visit occurred one week before the NATO summit scheduled for July 7-8 in Ankara. This summit will feature, for the first time, a defense industry forum as part of its official program. Such a forum enables defense industry representatives from NATO member states to convene and evaluate cooperation opportunities. The participation of Turkish defense companies such as Baykar on this platform showcases Turkey's standing in defense technology and export potential on the international stage.
