BREAKING NEWS
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has released its 2024 list of the world’s top 100 defense industry companies based on arms and military services sales. Five Turkish companies made it onto the prestigious list this year, reaffirming Türkiye’s rapid rise and expanding influence in the global defense landscape. The inclusion of ASELSAN, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), Baykar, Roketsan, and the Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE) reflects the nation's growing technological capabilities and strategic advancements in defense production.
According to the report, Turkish defense companies collectively increased their revenues by 11% from the previous year, reaching a total of 10.1 billion dollars. This significant growth highlights both Türkiye’s expanding defense export portfolio and its enhanced domestic production capacity. Notably, MKE’s first-ever appearance in the top 100 marks a major milestone, especially in the fields of land systems, ammunition production, and heavy weapons.
In the ranking, ASELSAN secured the 47th position with 3.47 billion dollars in revenue, while Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) followed at 65th place with 2.16 billion dollars. Baykar, renowned for its cutting-edge unmanned aerial systems, achieved 1.9 billion dollars in revenue and ranked 73rd. Roketsan reached 87th place with 1.39 billion dollars, driven by its advancements in missile and rocket systems. Meanwhile, MKE entered the list at 93rd with revenues of 1.21 billion dollars.
SIPRI emphasized that global arms sales have hit record levels due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, wars, and increasing military expenditures. Within this global trend, Türkiye continues to strengthen its position through expanding industrial capacity, technological innovations, and rising international demand. The progress of Turkish defense companies suggests the possibility of achieving even higher rankings in the coming years.
