BREAKING NEWS
Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler announced that Japanese defense circles are closely examining Turkish-made unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as part of efforts to strengthen Japan’s defense capabilities. According to Güler, advanced platforms such as the Bayraktar TB3, developed by Baykar, could significantly enhance Japan’s deterrence posture.
During the discussions, it was emphasized that the Bayraktar TB2 and its next-generation variant TB3 offer long endurance, advanced reconnaissance capabilities, and cost-effective operational solutions. The TB3’s ability to operate from short-runway platforms and naval vessels is seen as particularly relevant to Japan’s island defense strategy and maritime security needs.
Minister Güler also highlighted that defense cooperation between Türkiye and Japan extends beyond UAV procurement. Ongoing talks cover maritime security, unmanned systems, joint training activities, and air defense technologies. Following the Japanese defense minister’s visit to Ankara, bilateral relations have continued on a constructive path, with concrete steps toward deeper industrial cooperation.
Güler further noted that a Turkish Ministry of Defense delegation is scheduled to visit Japan in March, aiming to advance defense industry partnerships and explore joint development opportunities. Experts believe that combining Japan’s advanced technological infrastructure with Türkiye’s flexible production capacity and operational experience could elevate bilateral defense cooperation to a new strategic level, while also expanding Türkiye’s presence in the Asia-Pacific defense market.
