BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s defense industry is preparing for a critical phase as it approaches 2026, particularly within its national aircraft and helicopter programs. Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu emphasized during SAHA Istanbul’s SAHA Sohbet program that these projects represent major technological milestones for the country and carry strategic importance for national defense.
According to Demiroğlu, the National Combat Aircraft KAAN stands at the center of TUSAŞ’s long-term vision. While flight tests continue with the engineering prototype, ground tests and system-level validations are ongoing. The first flight prototype is expected to take to the skies by May or, at the latest, June. This will be followed by the second and third prototypes, each entering a comprehensive test campaign. The indigenous engine development for KAAN is targeted for completion by 2032, while serial production and initial deliveries are planned to begin in 2029, with an anticipated first order of 20 aircraft.
The jet trainer and light attack aircraft HÜRJET has effectively entered serial production. Alongside four prototypes, 12 aircraft are currently being produced for the Turkish Air Force. TUSAŞ aims to increase monthly production capacity from one aircraft to two, and eventually to three. Growing international interest—particularly from Spain—strengthens HÜRJET’s export prospects.
For the unmanned combat aircraft ANKA III, the critical design review has been completed and production activities have begun. Two additional prototypes are planned within the year, while expectations exceed 50 units for the Turkish Air Force alone. ANKA III is also attracting significant international attention for joint production and co-development opportunities.
On the helicopter side, deliveries of the GÖKBEY utility helicopter are set to accelerate. Between 10 and 12 GÖKBEY helicopters are scheduled for delivery in 2026, with higher numbers in subsequent years. Integration of the indigenous TS1400 engine is expected to be completed by 2028, enabling fully national configurations.
Through these ambitious programs, TUSAŞ aims to achieve double-digit revenues within the next five years and position Türkiye as a global player in aerospace and defense technologies.
