BREAKING NEWS
TUSAŞ and ROKETSAN signed the HÜRSAT-2 project contract at the 77th International Astronautical Congress held in Antalya. TUSAŞ General Manager Demiroğlu detailed Turkey's first serializable satellite family, stating that HÜRSAT-1 will carry optical payloads with sub-meter resolution and is planned for launch in mid-2027. HÜRSAT-2 will be launched with the ŞİMŞEK-1 rocket during 2028-2029.
TUSAŞ is a leading Turkish space sector organization with the capacity to design and manufacture both communication and observation satellites. Through its Space Systems Integration and Test Center (USET), the company conducts thermal, load, and vibration testing that satellites will experience during launch and operation. Demiroğlu emphasized that they are the only facility in Turkey capable of performing such tests and noted collaboration with ASELSAN and TÜBİTAK UZAY to create a comprehensive ecosystem.
The HÜRSAT family is developed based on modular design principles. This approach aims to accelerate satellite serial production while reducing costs. Demiroğlu noted that satellite manufacturing is a high-cost field but emphasized that export potential becomes clear when serial production and cost-effectiveness are achieved. The fundamental difference between HÜRSAT-1 and HÜRSAT-2 stems from their payloads and launch mechanisms, yet the use of common platforms and recurring subsystems facilitates serial production.
The Turkish defense and space sector has made significant progress in indigenous satellite development in recent years. The HÜRSAT project exemplifies this vision and demonstrates Turkey's capabilities in satellite design, production, and launch. Demiroğlu highlighted that cooperation with ROKETSAN will advance Turkey considerably in the satellite race by enabling both domestic satellite production and the use of indigenous launch systems. This contributes to increasing localization rates while supporting technological independence.
Demiroğlu stated that HÜRSAT platforms will be offered to Turkish and global markets through serial production. The satellite technology sector is rapidly expanding, with few nations offering cost-effective solutions. TUSAŞ is preparing to fill this gap and provide configurable satellite platforms tailored to various countries' requirements. Additionally, the company has begun deliveries of HÜRKUŞ training aircraft to Azerbaijan, continues progress on the HÜRJET project, and plays an active role in the KAAN fighter aircraft program.
