Baykar announced progress in stabilizing and transforming Piaggio Aerospace one year after completing its acquisition on June 30, 2025. Operating as Baykar Piaggio Aerospace S.p.A. since July 1, 2025, the company has restored operational continuity, preserved its workforce, approved a new industrial plan, and executed a comprehensive product launch.
Founded in 1884, Piaggio Aerospace entered receivership in December 2018 and spent approximately seven years seeking a stable future. Following a sales agreement signed with Italy's Ministry of Business and Made in Italy in December 2024 and approval from the Italian Prime Minister's office under the "Golden Power" provision, Baykar completed the acquisition at a ceremony held in Rome on June 30, 2025. This transaction provided the company with permanent capital structure and a long-term industrial owner.
From the outset, Baykar moved to secure business continuity, establish new governance structures, and create leadership to guide the company's transformation. The center of excellence in Villanova d'Albenga houses Aircraft and Engine business units, while post-sale and training activities continue in Genoa. Haluk Bayraktar, CEO of Baykar and Chairman of Piaggio Aerospace's Board, stated: "When we acquired Piaggio Aerospace, we made a promise to its employees, to Italy, and to the aerospace sector. One year later, we have kept that promise and gone even further."
Baykar provided financial support exceeding initial investment commitments, injecting significantly higher capital as of April 2026 than originally planned. These funds sustained operations, modernized products, preserved employment, and financed deeper transformation. The employment commitment was fully honored; against a pledge to retain approximately 675 employees, the workforce reached 677 by April 2026.
Under a new industrial plan approved in March 2026, the company introduced the new brand identity "Avanti Next" on February 28, 2026, and unveiled "Avanti NX," the latest evolution of the iconic P.180 Avanti twin-turboprop aircraft. The P.180's special mission variant was rebranded as "Mantide." In response to growing demand, Baykar set a target to increase production to 20-25 aircraft annually. The Motor Division demonstrated strong performance by securing new machining work packages generating revenue from late 2026 and advancing maintenance, repair, and overhaul negotiations across nine active engine programs.
In aircraft maintenance, Piaggio Aerospace supports a P.180 fleet under contract with Italian government agencies. The post-sale growth plan is being rapidly implemented, with a U.S. spare parts depot agreement nearing completion and the Pratica di Mare maintenance organization team expanding from 8 to 16 specialists. Piaggio Aerospace's EASA-certified design, manufacturing, and maintenance capabilities provide a strong capability foundation for future production activities within the Baykar Group, while the company maintains its commitment to independent civil aviation and maintenance operations.
