BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s advanced unmanned aerial vehicle AKSUNGUR, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), has achieved a significant milestone in indigenous defense technology. During a test flight powered by a nationally developed engine, AKSUNGUR successfully struck its targets using ASELSAN-manufactured LGK81 and LGK82 precision-guided munitions.
TUSAŞ General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu announced the achievement on social media, emphasizing that the test once again demonstrates the technological maturity of Türkiye’s defense industry. “This success clearly shows the level reached by our national defense sector and adds further strength to Türkiye’s journey toward independence in defense", Demiroğlu stated.
AKSUNGUR, which began operational service in the second quarter of 2021 and joined the Turkish Naval Forces inventory in October the same year, continues to evolve with new payload integrations. With its long endurance, high payload capacity, and multi-role capability, the platform performs intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike missions both domestically and internationally.
The LGK81 and LGK82 munitions developed by ASELSAN are laser guidance kits that convert conventional bombs into precision weapons, significantly improving strike accuracy. The seamless integration of these munitions with AKSUNGUR’s indigenous fire control and targeting systems demonstrates the strong coordination between Turkish-developed platforms, engines, and smart weapons.
This successful test not only confirms AKSUNGUR’s operational maturity but also marks another step in Türkiye’s goal of achieving complete autonomy in unmanned aerial systems. The synergy between TUSAŞ, ASELSAN, and other Turkish defense firms reflects a fully integrated national capability — from propulsion to precision strike — strengthening Türkiye’s position as a global defense technology exporter.
