BREAKING NEWS
Uzbekistan has publicly revealed its growing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capabilities for the first time as part of its defense modernization efforts. On November 16, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited a military base in Surhandarya, where various UAV systems currently in service with the Uzbek Armed Forces were showcased. Among them were Türkiye’s renowned Bayraktar TB2 armed UAVs, produced by Baykar, now officially confirmed as part of Uzbekistan’s inventory.
The Bayraktar TB2 is known for its advanced surveillance, targeting, and precision strike capabilities, making it one of the most effective UAVs in modern warfare. Uzbekistan’s display highlighted not only Turkish-made platforms but also a diverse fleet sourced from different countries. The arsenal includes the Chinese-made Wing Loong 1 UAV, the US-made RQ-20B Puma 3 AE, Russia’s ZALA 421-16E mini UAV, and Israel’s SkyStriker loitering munition. This wide range of systems reflects Uzbekistan’s strategy of diversifying suppliers to build a flexible and multi-purpose UAV fleet.
According to a statement from the Presidency, Uzbekistan is implementing broad defense reforms aimed at boosting the combat readiness of its armed forces. The modernization program focuses on equipping military units with cutting-edge technologies. During his visit, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the strategic importance of UAVs for regional security and evaluated their potential role in domestic production efforts.
Analysts note that Uzbekistan’s decision to showcase its UAV fleet increases the country’s visibility in the global defense arena. The presence of Bayraktar TB2s, in particular, highlights Türkiye’s growing defense partnerships in Central Asia and signals deepening cooperation in the field of advanced military technologies.
