BREAKING NEWS
The Qamishli region in northern Syria has recently become a focal point in Türkiye’s cross-border counterterrorism operations. The US providing protection to terrorist leaders in this area directly conflicts with Ankara’s security strategy. While terrorist leaders were traditionally based in fortified zones near Kandil or along the Iranian border, they have increasingly been spotted in US-controlled Qamishli, drawing Türkiye’s close attention.
Adopting a “neutralize at the source” approach, Türkiye continues its relentless fight against terrorism. The National Intelligence Organization (MİT) has intensified UAV-supported precision strikes, targeting the upper echelon of the terrorist group. In the past month alone, six senior leaders were neutralized, underscoring not only Türkiye’s operational superiority on the ground but also its psychological dominance over the group.
The growing activity in Qamishli has directly influenced Türkiye’s operations in the region. Precision strikes have systematically targeted the terrorist group’s logistics chiefs and regional commanders, crippling its operational capabilities. As a result, the organization is experiencing both structural and leadership-level breakdowns.
Retired Brigadier General Fahri Erenel explained that the US seeks to maintain control over Qamishli due to its strategic location and oil reserves, while also shielding PKK’s remaining leadership. However, Türkiye’s successful operations clearly demonstrate that these leaders cannot find safe haven in the region and remain constant targets.
MİT’s leader-focused operations are not only dismantling the terrorist group’s local presence but are also undermining its broader organizational framework. This further highlights Türkiye’s determination and effectiveness in its cross-border security policy.
