BREAKING NEWS
At the IDEF 2025 Defense Industry Fair, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) deepened its international cooperation with Indonesia by signing a framework agreement with PT Republik Aero Dirgantara (PT RAD) and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI). The new agreement encompasses joint production, engineering collaboration, and technology transfer under the KAAN fighter jet program, aiming to build an integrated industrial partnership between the two nations.
Under the deal, PT RAD will be responsible for setting up local production facilities, factory infrastructure, and operational management for KAAN manufacturing in Indonesia. The agreement also paves the way for a joint venture between PT RAD and Turkey’s Roketsan to support weapon integration and munitions production specifically for the KAAN platform. Meanwhile, PTDI will contribute in the fields of structural design, composite part production, avionics, and detailed component manufacturing — actively participating in TUSAŞ-led engineering programs.
Through this collaboration, Indonesia will gain the opportunity to enhance its local aerospace and defense industrial capacity, while TUSAŞ expands its role as a global exporter of advanced aviation technologies. The initiative also reinforces Turkey’s growing position as a reliable defense partner in Southeast Asia, offering mutual benefits in expertise, production capability, and technology development.
The KAAN fighter jet stands as a symbol of Turkey’s ambition for full defense autonomy. As a fifth-generation multi-role aircraft, KAAN features high maneuverability, low radar visibility (stealth), AI-assisted avionics, and network-centric warfare capabilities. It successfully completed its first flight on February 21, 2024, and its second flight on May 6, 2024, marking key milestones in Turkish aviation history. Future stages of the project will include the integration of a national jet engine, further increasing KAAN’s indigenous content and export potential.
With this agreement, both nations aim to establish long-term strategic ties in aviation and defense. For TUSAŞ, it represents not only a commercial success but also a crucial step toward building co-production ecosystems that empower allied nations and strengthen Turkey’s international footprint in next-generation aerospace programs.
